Day 25 | Iran War & Beyond
① Trump said "we've won this war" — and simultaneously ordered the 82nd Airborne to the Middle East. Iran fired cluster munitions into suburban Tel Aviv tonight. A Bushehr nuclear plant strike was confirmed. The war did not hear the announcement.
② Talks may happen in Pakistan as early as Thursday. The US agreed in principle. Iran hasn't confirmed it's coming. One problem: the analyst who knows Iran best says the US may be negotiating with the wrong person — Ghalibaf is visible, but Zolghadr is Mojtaba's man.
③ Trump's mystery "prize" from Iran is almost certainly Hormuz passage rights. Bloomberg confirmed Iran is charging $2 million per voyage. Someone also appears to have known about Monday's peace announcement before it was made — oil futures spiked minutes before the Truth Social post. Congress is moving. The SEC is silent.
④ A civilian nuclear power plant was struck for the second time this war. The IAEA condemned it. The head of the IAEA said separately that Iran's nuclear program will survive the conflict. The war's stated objective may not be achievable.
⑤ An unusual spike in oil futures trading minutes before Trump's Monday peace announcement is now being investigated. Nobel laureate Paul Krugman said it plainly: "Somebody close to Trump knew what he was about to do." $1.7 trillion moved in minutes.
⑥ The Philippines declared a national energy emergency. 115 million people. No domestic oil. New Zealand issued emergency cash payments to families. Asia is burning more coal. The IEA says this is worse than the 1970s oil shocks. The war is 25 days old.
