Day 28 | Iran War & Beyond
Israel struck Iranian nuclear sites for the first time in this war. Rubio told allies privately it will last two to four more weeks. Iran blocked China's ships. The UN said: it's about food.
① Israel struck the Arak heavy water complex and the Ardakan yellowcake plant today — the first nuclear site strikes of this war. Iran threatened heavy retaliation. This happened hours after Trump said talks were going "very well."
② Rubio told G7 allies behind closed doors: two to four more weeks of war. In public he said "weeks not months" and "no ground troops needed" — while thousands of troops head to the region and the US admits it doesn't know who's making decisions in Tehran.
③ The UN created a fertilizer task force today. A third of the world's fertilizer moves through the Strait of Hormuz. Spring planting season is now. The countries that will go hungry didn't start this war.
④ Iran blocked two Chinese ships on Friday — ships from China's largest shipping company, flying Chinese flags, on a route Iran's own foreign minister said was permitted. China's FM called Pakistan and said it's time to talk peace.
⑤ Iran killed a man in Tel Aviv with cluster munitions after midnight. It was Iran's sixth missile attack on Israel in a single day. The daily rhythm of strikes on civilian areas — in Israel and in Iran — is now 28 days old.
⑥ The Philippines has 40 days of fuel left. Japan is reopening coal plants. Finland's president warned this could be worse than COVID for the global economy. Brent crude hit $112 — the highest since 2022. The S&P just had its worst five-week stretch in four years.
